1. Playing too many moves with pawns

Problem with playing too many moves with pawn early on in the game is that the player making those excess pawn moves is giving the opposition a chance to gain greater control of the board as well as blocking in his or her own pieces. Pawn move should be played very strategically as it gives the player board control. Many beginners make the mistake of making too many pawn moves at the beginning of the game, which delays the development of Knights and Bishops. Playing too many pawn moves early in the game leaves the King exposed in the Center.

2. Keeping pieces undefended

Undefended pieces are pieces that are not supported by any other pieces. Undefended pieces results in the opponent taking advantage due to lack of piece coordination, this means our pieces must occupy good squares and conduct joint actions. Ideally, this means our pieces must defend each other.

"Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships."

- Michael Jordan.

3. Keeping the king in the center

Most amateurs make the mistake of keeping the king in the center, the big reason to get the king out of the center board is because center is where most of the action takes place. the most important things to remember early in the game, is to castle your king to safety in the corner. The central pawns need to move fight out for controlling the center. Occupying the control of the center of the board gives strategical advantage over the rivals.

4. Queen moves out too early

Developing the queen too early and trying to create threats with it can put it under the attack of enemy pieces which in turn is a double edged sword. Finally the opponent developed his pieces which leads to direct threat to the queen, resulting in forced moves to avoid the queens capture.

5. Playing without a plan

Playing Chess without a plan is planning to fail. One of the most common mistake made by beginner is moving the pieces just because its our turn. During the middle phase of the game it is key to have a strategic plan of what we want to do.
